Down East

Beginning at the North River Bridge and encompassing several small communities in Carteret County, Down East has become a unique and close-knit area of the Crystal Coast.

The portion of U.S. 70 that runs through Down East is designated as a NC Scenic Byway. The area’s salt marshes are perfect for birdwatching and the waters provide great clamming areas as well as light tackle fishing.
