Explore Our Favorite Sunset Viewing Spots on the Crystal Coast
On the Crystal Coast, nothing beats watching the sun dip below the horizon at the end of a day well-spent. Here, sunsets range in color from muted purple to vibrant orange, and no matter where you go, you’ll be in awe of the striking coastal skylines our area has to offer.
Want to see some of the Crystal Coast’s best sunsets in person? Here are a few of our favorite spots!
The Historic Downtown Waterfront in Beaufort
Stroll along the scenic Beaufort waterfront boardwalk to take in the sight of ships bobbing out on their moorings while the last rays of sun paint the sky, or catch the color show from the parking lot of the Beaufort Inn at the end of Ann Street. Another great option is the Rhum Bar on Front Street—be sure to grab one of their namesake punches to sip on while you appreciate the natural beauty!
Sunset Drive Water Access in Morehead City
At the corner of Sunset Drive and 32nd Street is the aptly named Sunset Drive Water Access. With a boardwalk that extends out to the water’s edge, it’s an ideal place for catching a late-evening sunset. Its sandy beach offers plenty of room for relaxing on a picnic blanket or beach chair. Feel free to bring some refreshments to enjoy while you watch the show!
Looking for another nifty spot? Conch’s Point, located at 608 Bay Street, has a boardwalk, a beautiful gazebo, and a floating dock that’s ideal for viewing sunsets.
The Point in Emerald Isle
If you’ve never been to The Point at the end of Coast Guard Road in Emerald Isle, then it’s time for a trip! This is where the island trails off into a sand bar, offering panoramic views of Bogue Inlet, Bear Island, and the Atlantic Ocean. And if you haven’t already guessed, the scenery is even more spectacular when painted with a fluorescent display of colors!
The Oceanana Resort Fishing Pier in Atlantic Beach
The only fishing pier in Atlantic Beach is located off the Oceanana Resort, and it’s truly an amazing place for an evening walk in the day’s last rays of sunshine.
While you’re there, try sampling some local fare at Amos Mosquito’s, one of the most popular restaurants in all of Atlantic Beach (and the Crystal Coast!). They even have outdoor seating, which makes it easy to take in the beautiful sunsets over a delicious dinner.
Your Own Deck, Porch, Backyard, or Dock!
Though all of these places are truly outstanding spots for appreciating amazing displays of color, there’s really no better place to enjoy a great sunset than from the comfort of your own home!
Whether you watch from a large kitchen window while you’re cooking dinner, from your sunroom or back deck while you sip drinks, or from the dock while you tie up your boat after an evening fishing excursion, nothing beats having your own special place. Thankfully, the Crystal Coast has plenty of communities to choose from—and we’d love to help you find your own slice of paradise.
